Drawings inspired from primary research of 18th century vehicles. I did this b visiting Beamins museum in County Durham.

Continuous line drawings and blind drawings. Experimenting with different layer effects of Adobe Photoshop.

Here I started experimenting with mirroring motifs. the drawings of trams were particularly effective for this.

Drawing workshop!

I made this motif by taking a sample of mark making duplicating and joining it together geometrically using photoshop.

I refined this motif by taking a section of this and making another geometric motif. i then drew and bleached it onto died paper creating the effect below.

LEATHER MANIPULATION

Whilst manipulating fabric, i started to experiment with leather and found some interesting effects and textures.

{{SHARK TEETH}}

These are formed by cutting and folding tucked sections. These are some shapes i created.
The sample below was machine stitched. (not recommended unless using a leather needle)

These samples were pig leather from the lining of an old leather jacket. The used, worn factor gives the leather more flexibility and makes it easier to manipulate.

This muslin fabric sample consists of machine stitched tucks horizontally and vertically. I developed this idea into leather samples.

Here the tucks are at random angles giving an edgy effect.

Rows of tucks joined together down the middle section and stitched down a certain direction at the sides. I love the effect the sheen of the leather has on this sample.

Pleated leather

Final piece. I think the front panels look successful on this. I would highly recommend using an awl blade though.. or else you'll be there forever!

CLASSIC SCI FI

I  used classic sic fi series to get inspiration from costumes and scenery and stylizing to use in my design work.

Fabric Manipulation

In the theme of

HOBOS

Aplique

Reverse Aplique

Experimental shabori techniques.

Beige and Blue die gave a mucky effect on muslin fabric. Shiny fabric used in suffolk puffs give a touch of glamor to the sample.

Plaid was a theme that kept popping up in my research so i distressed the seams of muslin fabric to create this effect.

This is a developed sample using pin ticks and jagged tucks overlaying each other randomly. Netted red fabric overlapped and bonderwebbed on top gave an effective grungy look.

I decided to use patchwork for the final garment front, as it showed a combination of different fabric manipulation techniques and went well with the grungy theme. I love the tassels positioned diagonally across the garment sample, these consist of the tie died cotton with occasional deep red silk ones too, giving a glamorous effect.
